Gaining admission to elite independent schools - such as Eton, Harrow, Westminster, St Paul’s, Winchester or Cheltenham Ladies College - is highly competitive.

These schools demand the highest levels of academic performance. Entrance exams (11+, 13+, or 16+) are designed to stretch candidates well beyond the standard curriculum, and therefore preparation of otherwise unseen content and rigour is essential. Applicants are expected to show strong reasoning, creativity, and problem-solving skills as well as a wealth of extra curricular experience.

Elite schools offer a relatively small number of places each year - often just a few dozen - while receiving hundreds (sometimes thousands) of applications from across the UK and internationally. The sheer ratio of applicants to places makes the process intensely competitive. Thus, admission is rarely based on one test alone. Instead, it may involve pre testing (e.g. in year 6) and specific and bespoke entrance examinations (e.g. Mathematics, English, non-verbal reasoning). In addition, candidates participate in in-depth interviews designed to assess the qualities and attributes they can contribute to the school's culture. This multi-layered process is designed to filter for top-tier candidates with not only high intellect but also character, curiosity, and potential.

MJJ Tuition offer the expertise and resources necessary to help you accomplish these goals.

Our provision allows for bespoke, intensive and impactful one-on-one attention, which means learning is adapted to suit the student’s strengths, development requirements, and pace of learning. This personalised approach is crucial for mastering the specific skills tested in these entrance exams. Application success depends heavily on exam strategy. Our tutors teach time management, how to approach different question types (e.g. comprehension, inference, verbal and non-verbal reasoning), and how to avoid common mistakes under pressure.

Our tutors have inside knowledge of the types of questions and formats used by particular schools. They can provide targeted practice based on real or past paper formats used by top schools such as Westminster, St Paul’s, Eton, Cheltenham Ladies College, Bancroft and Harrow. With regular practice and support, students build confidence in their ability to tackle difficult questions. A confident student is far less likely to panic or underperform on the day of the exam, when the stakes are at their highest.

We offer mock interviews and coaching in spoken communication, which can make a significant difference in how a student presents themselves throughout the selection process. We use our extensive experience of applications to these elite schools to ensure that any student has the best chance of showing their true potential.
